Sympathy for Maesteg

It looks as if Maesteg are doomed now, which is a damn shame.

Llandovery beat Glam Wanderers 26-10 to put another nail in the Maesteg coffin and here's an extract from the match report :-

Llandovery closed down the game with a try from Scarlets full-back Ceiron Thomas.

It was only 11-10 at half-time a try for each side, prop Nathan Trevett for the visitors, hooker Emyr Phillips for the Drovers.

Team

Ceiron Thomas,  Darren Daniel
M Jones, I Taffetsauffer, V Jenkins; G Morgan (capt), R Walters;

E Howells, E Phillips, A Jones, A Davies, H Pugh, Dafydd Jones, (C Jenkins 21-32), G Bennett, G Williams

To be fair, the Wanderers had Dafydd Hewitt (Blues) in the centre. When he was carded, Llandovery managed to score points and stretch away.

It was always going to be difficult for Maesteg with the Drovers having the Wanderers on a Tuesday night. They must have had to leave Ely at 4pm and it was just a few days after losing the cup semi final as well.

It's Newport's longest trip as it is for most of the clubs on the M4 belt and clubs rarely take their best team there.

Maesteg's relegation is a bit of a disaster for them and us. The home gate against Maesteg is usually worth about six normal home matches so we will miss that a lot.

WE should act now and arrange two friendlies against Maesteg next season at about the usual times.

I hope Maesteg bounce back straight away but it isn't going to be easy with big spenders like Tonmawr and Carmarthen Quins in their league.
