Should Bridgend Ravens and Maesteg merge to form a new club?Ex-Maesteg coach Gareth Brown has told Glamorgan Gazette that he believe that his former employees should combine with us.
He said:
"But I do think a team formed from the amalgamation of Maesteg and Bridgend - call them the Celtic Warriors if you like- would serve the local talent coming through and would be good enough to compete with the likes of Swansea, Cardiff and Neath."
"The team could play at the Old Parish Ground to start with because the Brewery Field has been taken over by rugby league and with rugby men like Wayne Gill and John Dalton behind it, the future could look a lot brighter."
Would you like to see the two clubs merge?
This topic will stir opposition from both sets of supporters i'm sure, however, should our off-field troubles continue, it may need to be addressed and talks should go ahead to see if it's feisable.
Ideally, we should be looking to remain Bridgend Ravens with our own ground, club house etc, if that does not happen then I'm would agree with the merger as a last resort, to save rugby in Bridgend county.
If CC and the council have their way, I think talks of a merger could prove to be the only saving grace for the great game of rugby union in this area.
