Referees.I don't know if it's already been considered, or it may already happen, but it may be worthwhile inviting a ref along to a training session now and again to give some advice/assistance.
The ref on Saturday seemed to be using a different rule-book to us sometimes, and some of his decision making was quite bizzare.
But they all have regular referee meetings and it may be useful to have some feedback on their hot topics etc.
I'd usually suggest a friend of the Ravens such as Huw David, but for this purpose I'll suggest (Block your ears RHYD)....James Jones, as he's our most local, but is also one of the most pickiest I've ever come across!

Having watched the Corus game today, refs must be using different rule books in this division. the penalty count against us was silly. As soon as our players hit the ground they were penalised for holding on (or even before they hit the ground) yet corus were allowed to handle on the floor as and when they wanted. On a posative note though, a good performance from the pack today, nice to see us being able to compete in both line out and scrum! Keep it up lads, weare only one whistle away from a win!

Even though the refs seem one sided, we can't use that as an excuse all the time. yes the scrum and lineout want well but what did we do with the ball we won, it was allways slow and no one seemed to know what to do,headless chickens comes to mind. no confidence and no leadership.

Having watched the game today I have looked up the 4 referees that we have had this season and I cannot believe that they actually ref in the premier division and even at regional level. I thought they we refs from the lower leagues and that we were being overly penalised because of no official touch judges.
I have watched 3 out of the 4 games played and am mystified at some of the decisions that they are making. Today the Corus scrum half was putting the ball into the second row and was not penalised once, their players were lying off side most of the game including at the rucks and not penalised. Early on there was also a few bouts of "close contact work" where Corus players ran distances to throw punches in front of the referee and were not yellow carded. Yet a Bridgend player was yellow carded for allegedly throwing a punch. Late on in the game their defender who was outside the 22 and last line of defence caught a Bridgend kick and kicked to the half way line he didn't follow the ball but all the Corus players in front of him took off and closed Bridgend down on the half way line, no penalty given, how many people need to be offside to give a penalty. He penalised Bridgend for being infront of the kicker at one drop out yet Corus were allowed to get away with it anumber of times. Last week at Felinfoel the penalty count was 22 to 6 yet I was told no Bridgend player was yellow carded. Why did he not yellow card anyone, it just goes to show how inconsistant they are. If he did not think there was any reason not to yellow card any one after 22 penalties why do we get players yellow carded after 1 or 2 penalties.
All we want from referee's is consistancy in the decisions they make. If it is difficult for spectators to understand referee's decision's the players must be really frustrated. There have been far to many occasions this season where we spectators were waiting for the referee to give us a penalty for an infringement that we have clearly seen only to see that the ref has seen something else which no one else has.
PS our touch judge needs to have lessons from John Brown, Corus touch judge was adding 3 /4 meters every time even the ref pulled him up on that. Also why did they not change over maybe the Corus touch judge would have had a more difficult time getting away with it in front of the stand.

Having watched the game today, I get the idea that we need to be more streetwise, Corus certainly were, they know how to play the Ref, we are trying to play the game properly, not it seams something other teams worry about to much, they just go out to get a result !!
Having said that I am not saying we should go in throwing punches as and when, far from it, fighting should take place in a ring, not on a rugby pitch !

We lamented the refereeing standards in the premiership and you can hardly expect the officials to be better in Division 1 West.
I thought we did okay from the officiating point of view - certainly better than the Newbridge Field fiasco. This referee was fair to middling.
What we aren't getting is a lot of chat from the backs. Poor communication? I don't know, but I only heard Ricky Williams' voice among the backs yesterday.
Mind you, the forwards seem to have a chorus of voices sounding off!
2 yellow cards for a prop (Rowan?) and a second row (thanks ravinmad) were costly as well.
Getting carded when the touch judges can't draw the referee's attention to anything that the ref misses is a mystery to me.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Kyle's programme comments about his ambition to stay on the field a bit longer were good to read. Make that the last card Kyle and we'll all be celebrating winning points very soon.

Kyle didnt get yellow carded. It was Owen Williams.

Is it because we are playing in the yellow jerseys that's the problem with some of the 50/50 calls from the ref, do we stand out too much? Any news on the the new kit ,I know a few people interested in buying new Ravens shirts?

I was laughed at when I suggested this last season as a reason why we were falling foul of referees.
I have been keeping watch ever since and I am convinced that the team with the most stand-out coloured jerseys get penalised more at breakdowns.
It's a sad aspect of our sport that there isn't a referee in Wales, or Great Britain for that matter, that manages to referee the breakdowns properly or consistently and there are offences at EVERY breakdown.
The only solution is to become as streetwise as the opposition. Test out the referee early on and play to the limits he sets.

In the end, you need to perform and if you dont do that you lose.
The ref is always a help but you have the ball enough in a game to score a good few points and we're just not up to standard at the moment. We have been robbed a couple of times but we could have scored on many other occasions where the ref wouldnt have been able to rob us if we had done so.

Play the game... not the ref! If a team is good enough, they will overcome what inabilities any referee potentially has.
Don't back chat. Play the game. Get on side with the ref from the outset.
Simple.
