Llanelli (H) Boxing Day

Match preview - http://bit.ly/1mxsZuI

Llanelli don't usually bring to many supporters so lets hope that we get a great turnout, including many of those who attended this years Cup Final.

And to the Ravens squad give us a game to remember and send us into 2016 happy.

I can't see there being a big crowd there. It will be the usual supporters minus a few I think.
I've only been a Ravens supporter for 4/5 years having emigrated to Bridgend and find it difficult to understand why, that given its the only club in the town that there are not more supporters who go the games. There have been times that the away support was bigger than our home support!
I do still think that the board should encourage or at least try to do something to drum up more support like season ticket holders ring a friend day!

Pitch inspection completed at 10:15am and I am delighted to confirm that the game is on.

See you all later.

ok, what the hell has gone wrong?
Let's face it premiership sides shouldn't be beaten by other premiership sides by 50 plus points. This is more of a typical score you would see in a cup match between a premiership side and division 1 west side!
it's sad really to see a score like this on a Boxing day match when a few more casual christmas supporters turn up who could come back again if they were impressed with what they saw. This certainly isn't going to happen after this shambles.
I could accept defeat and be gracious with it but this is unacceptable at this level.

boxing day defeat

Dreadful performance against a team with a similar points total to us. im still trying trying to work out how we had that good spell in oct/nov because we are once again looking completely out  of our depth with this group of youngsters in this league.

Very disappointed with the performance yesterday especially with such a good crowd.

Llanelli were a class above in every department - a fine example being former Wales international Jordan Williams who carved up from 15.

To put yesterdays game into perspective the Llanelli match day squad contained 10 Scarlets regional squad players including 2 internationals, who played for the jersey. Last Boxing day we were targeted again as there was a similar number  of Scarlets regional players who played against us with a similar result.
Yesterday we had 3 Ospreys regional players who do not want to play for our jersey.  The three have played occasionally for us before but I have yet to see any of the 3 have a stand out game.
I would like to know what was the point of playing 17 year olds in our recent Fosters Tournament. We are a really new squad who need to play on a regular basis to get a team effort going.
Our Director of Rugby's recent rant about what the Ospreys do for us is a bit hollow after yesterday's game.

Same old humiliation.

Look at the same date posts from last year and nothing has changed at all. I pointed out that last year Llanelli, Cardiff et al played their regional players to much better effect than the O's did with us (the O's clique on here failed to see why or how this is happening and basically tried to explain this phenomenon away yet again as a bad day at the office for us!!!!).

Players and coaches with no real affinity with our club are killing Bridgend - I mean who the hell uses all of the replacements with over ten minutes to go and then we have to play the last ten or so minutes with 14 players when we have a genuine injury - is this supposed to be professional? This doesn't happen in school games. Someone is clearly out of their depth or following orders blindly from above - either way to the detriment of Bridgend and the players.

Quite a good crowd turned out but what a waste of a chance to get more wavering supporters to come back again - what should have been a hotly contested and even game ruined by bad management or mind set, either way, shocking.

I am just waiting to see if the management have some dignity and take the trouble to apologise to disappointed paying customers for a dreadful showing. If the side is young and developing then keep it the same for all games and don't dick about with experimental sides in less important competitions, for goodness sake. We seem to be the only club in the Premiership on the wrong end of hammerings like this now, everyone else seems to have turned around their sides and now compete at least.

Also - he may not be Superman, he may be a mythical figure wandering in the mists of Merthyrmawr sand dunes after one training run too many or he may not even exist, but where the heck is Sam Underhill - Bridgend's young and promising (not the O's) star signing from the end of the summer?????
Games for Bridgend so far - 0 and counting.

I'm not sure what you want them to say. Nobody was happy with Saturday's performance or the result.

Dean Ronan posted a message on social media today to say he realised that they had all let the club and supporters down. They're back in training this evening and looking to put it right.

Aled -
It is not for you and any of the local club based management to respond to the points raised. I have not seen a post criticising what you and your volunteers do. The problems are on the rugby pitch.
NONE of you are involved in picking the team on the field.
We have a Director of Rugby (I think), a head coach, plus Steve Tandy, Andrew Milward, Gruff Rees and Andrew Hore who are ALL responsible for the activities on the pitch, IT IS FOR THEM TO RESPOND. This is what Spitfire and Gazza are asking for.
Where is Andrew Hore who indicated that he would meet with supporters over 2 years ago.
To have players foisted on us as we do,who do not want to play for us or put in a full shift on the field, selection and monitoring of the players performance  is the Osprey employed team's total responsibility.
We have had over 180 points scored against us in the last 4 games this is not good enough, the little buds that came with the 4 wins on the bounce have well and truly been washed away.

Bridgend 8 v 64 Llanelli

Second half mauling sees Ravens downed on Boxing Day

17:29, 26 Dec 2015
By Ron Chalmers

There was little Christmas cheer for Bridgend in this Boxing Day clash with Llanelli at the Brewery Field as their side was torn apart in a seven-try second half mauling by the visitors.

There was little sign of the carnage to come as the Ravens battled well in the first half although the Llanelli pack had the upper hand and their backs looked sharp.

An early penalty by outside half Joe Scrivens was quickly cancelled out by a string of penalties which gave Llanelli good field position and they kicked to the corner, won the lineout and drove captain Adam Powell over for a try.

They repeated the tactic after 14 minutes but on this occasion, spun the ball wide and a simple loop by outside half Josh Lewis put winger Shaun Pearce over in the corner.

With half time approaching, a Llanelli clearance kick was fielded by full back Marc Bennett who burst through the Llanelli defence and a smart kick was taken by winger Mike Powell who dived over for a try that made it 12-8 to Llanelli at the break.

Llanelli wasted no time in increasing their lead as former Raven centre Nathan Edwards just managed to touch down after a defensive error and Lewis added the conversion.

Four minutes later, a Ravens mistake let Lewis in for a try from halfway and that opened the floodgates.

On the hour, Torin Myhill scored a try barely a minute after replacing his brother Kirby in the Llanelli front row and then international full back Jordan Williams skipped through the Ravens defence and used his pace to cross from halfway.

Edwards got a second try as the Ravens defence fell apart and to make matters worse, the Ravens had to play the last 10 minutes with 14 men after Bennett was injured and they’d used all their replacements.

Robin McBryde’s son Billy scored a try and Lewis finished it off with a 60 metre unchallenged run and he also converted five of the second half tries for a match tally of 20 points.

Scoring

Bridgend Ravens

Try – M Powell

Pen – J Scrivens

Llanelli

Tries – N Edwards (2), J Lewis (2), A Powell, S Pearce, T Myhill, J Williams, B McBryde

Cons – J Lewis (5)

Isnt Sam Underhill at the Ospreys?

I seem to remember him playing at the start of the season versus one of the Irish sides

I was with 3 others, all of us wavering or ex ravens fans.
