Blues/Ponty

WOW!!!!

Cardiff Blues to stop providing players to Premiership clubs Pontypridd and Cardiff RFC in major shake-up

Danny Wilson has come out to say that there will be a reduction in player supply and not a total removal of in todays press conference.

Here's the latest press report.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/34809864

A lot less hysterical than yesterdays report.

Makes sense, because at present they are paying for a lot of players that are not playing for the Blues and spend the majority of their time playing in the Premiership.

That's money that could be spent on higher quality players.
Lets see what happens next year.

Makes interesting reading from the Ponty fans who always have denied they have had help from the Blues ?

Looks like this has confirmed the Ponty supporters distrust and suspicions of the Blues that they have had all along. The final straw for regional rugby in the valleys. This will probably strengthen Ponty in the long run as they wont be disrupted by having to play blues players when ordered to.
Maybe the other regions will watch the outcome of this closely and take the same decision.
G10

No Ponty have been funded by the Blues to the tune of 250,000 each year.
They will struggle to find this cash.
All the young players in RCT to want to play for the Blues anyway.
Sven

Talking to friends with good connections inside Pontypridd they didn't recognise a figure of 250k from Cardiff Blues, and they said they were mainly reliant on a few big sponsors (providing between 10k and 30k per annum on top of the 150k of WRU annual core funding. Perhaps the 250k spoken about is an accountancy 'game' with Blues released players wages shown as a contribution in kind? All appears very strange.

Isn't it a supply of regionally contracted players to the equivalent of the value of 250,000 PA rather than a cash sum?!
Sven

As we know Aled if only financial relationships with the region / WRU were that simple! So lets not restart that one. These things are as much  management accountancy 'smoke and mirrors' as reality. Shifting injured players wages to the Premiership account of benefit in kind, or all wages foe a long period/ a season for a fringe regional player making occasional Premiership match appearances. Notionally charging 'in kind' for use of facilities or physio staff you would be paying for anyway as a region. Accountancy can often be like statistics ie lies, damn lies and statistics (or in this case accountancy treatment)
G10

Im not sure your grasping the point here.
No cash has been exchanged between the Blues or Ponty.
But they have had a free squad of circa 20 players given to them from the Blues at no cost. This will not be in any accounts. Similar to the regional players playing for Wales (ok there are central contracts now but you get what im saying )
Each one of those players are on circa 10-15K per year.
Therefore next season Ponty will have to find an additional 200-250k to have a like for like squad and be as competitive as they have been.
Hope this clears it up.
