"Crusade for Super League"

"Celtic Crusaders have gained a place in Super league for the next 3 years, along with Salford. All existing Super league sides remain in the new expanded competition"

It was coming and congratulations to them, your thoughts?
Wild Raven

Now what?

How will this effect the Ravens?

Is it good or bad news?

are my first thoughts.
Wild Raven

Strong rumour on another site that this means the Crusaders moving to the vacant Cardiff Arms Park in 12 months time when Cardiff RFC & "The Blues" have moved to Leckwith.
leenat

I don't know what to think.

I saw the announcement, but my first thoughts were the Ravens, think a crises is looming.

19th August, too long to wait, we need to know what the club plans to do now.

It was mentioned that the Brewery Field is to re-developed by the start of the season 2009, again what does that mean for us?

I'm with you Wild Raven, I don't know what to think.
BALDRAVEN

Don't care 52/52 of sport thats fine by me.
Aleeed#

It could have disastrous effects on us. We need to know the motives of the CC where they intend playing in 2009. Get set for another season of roller coaster rides as a Bridgend fan eh?

I have some ideas on it all.... but I can't get much further than 'hmmmmmm' at the moment!
BALDRAVEN

Lets stop speculating and wait and see, whatever happens it is out of our hands as supporters.

On the contrary, it is very much in our hands to make sure that our local elected representatives know very definitely the importance of maintaining the existance of the Ravens if they don't want to lose votes.

Will they though.  People say a lot of things to get where they want, but in reality don't give a toss once in post. Also as supporters of any club who willWILL they take notice?

I hope nothing bad happens in the future, but who knows?  Not the elected.   Idea Why can't we 'the club' and the CC work together and bury the hatchet as to what ever has happened in the past and look/step forward for the future of Bridgend as a sporting area. Idea

Might be hard for some people, on both sides of the fence, but Bald Raven, I think you've had a EUREKA moment. Let's hope so!

Quote:
CELTIC CRUSADERS
Whilst well maintained, the ground is limited and old fashioned but there is a commitment to immediately enhance the current facilities. In the medium term the club recognises the need to develop a new facility and appears to be working with the local public agencies to deliver this. As with any new venture, financial projections are more subjective but the club has demonstrated financial stability during its progress through the National Leagues.  The club has built good relationships with commercial partners and TV channel S4C offers exciting opportunities. There is supportive independent market research for Super League in South Wales, although inevitably this can only be fully tested by the club’s actual participation in the competition. The playing infrastructure is very good in places but the club is understandably at the early stages with its scholarship and academy teams.

From the RFL website HERE

Interesting.
leenat

As far as I'm concerned, the 2 clubs MUST go their seperate ways.  The Ravens must have their own facility to call home, I am not against the Crusaders building a new stadium, my problem is that I don't want mine and your club to get involved in it.  In Dai Rees, we have someone at the top who is thinking the same, he surely won't let this happen to us.

The only way forward for us, is for the clubs to ahve absolutely no ties together in anyway whatever in the future, no hachthet will ever be buried now, there's too much water under the bridge.

Let's hope today's announcement signal the beginning of the end of the Ravens-Crusaders relationship.

I love Rugby League, but not at the expense of my union club!
ravinmad

I don't understand how we can hope to 'sever all ties' with the Crusaders.

Either LS gets his way and builds a new stadium and sells the Brewery Field for development meaning we can't stay at the Brewery anyway or he redevelops the ground and we ground share. The Local Authority doesn't have the finances or willingness to build us a ground that would meet the Premiership criteria so we would have to drop down the leagues if we play somewhere else.

As much as I would hate to leave the Brewery Field having supported the club for over 30 years, the best future I can see for us is if the Authority and LS get together and build a stadium where the Authority has it written into the agreements that we can not only play but take some share of the revenue. I don't hold out much hope of our Council supporting us in this way like Carmarthen support the turks and Swansea support the Ospreys, but you never know.
BALDRAVEN

Upgrade the BF. first thing they need to do is sort out the toilets their always leaking.  Secondly upgrade the bar areas especially pillars.
blaze.s8n

well, I enjoy having something to go and watch in the barron summer months...but i'd rather watch the ravens...I think we can co-exist though. why not? too much politics and what-ifs! Maybe they could do a all year season ticket and open the club up more in the week days for live games depending on how much the ravens get back from it....zero probably knowing LS. But we need more people to come to games...how do we get people coming back?

When the Crusaders leace the Brewery Field why can't the council or someone else buy the lease back of the idiot.
Where do Bridgend F.C play now.
Why could'nt they share the ground with us as they have done in the Gnoll with Neath F.C.
How can Leighton sell the ground for development does'nt the lease say it can only be used for sport?.
Where have all our supporters gone?
We seem to lose a couple of hundred every season, and its only the ones who really care about the club that go.
Why cant the club give  free tickets to the schools around the area.
Its only going to cost us for the printing which we could try and get a company to cover them for us.
We aint got nothing to lose if they don't turn up, they don't turn up.
But if they do they will have to bring at least one paying adult with them and hopefully they will come back again.
Only my opinion, but we have to do something to get people back in there.
Lots of questions i know

I don't know. At the moment be careful what you say, he owns the stadium we play out of! There is noone willing to buy the lease back and the council won't just ask for it back!

No idea, I heard they were knocking around in Porthcawl last season, not sure its true mind.

Why could'nt they share the ground with us as they have done in the Gnoll with Neath F.C.

I'm sure that its being considered, but where would the ground be? Who would pay for a joint venue between us and the FC. Neath FC is not a ground share as the rugby club own the stadium.

He would have to have the councils permission, I am sure. They have the best interests of Bridgend Ravens at heart and the MP for our area supports Bridgend and the Crusaders

That is true, they are off supporting the next most plastic thing such as the Ospreys. The real fans have remained and their hard graft is keeping the Ravens going. It would be nice to have them back and have money coming into the club, but they are not real supporters of our club and will only support successful sides, thats why we had decent crowds when we won the league last.

We've tried some initiative with tickets last season I think, discount tickets were given to schools but not many took up the offer to use them. Under 12's already come in free with an adult to home games, and when we used to give away free tickets back in the pro era back then either.

HTH
ron jeremie

Thanks for the answers.
Get annoyed when you see other clubs moving so far ahead of us and us going backwards.
It seems the harder we try the more we get knocked back with no end in sight
leenat

Bridgend FC play at the University of Glamorgan near Pontypridd.  Locals forced them out along with council out of Porthcawl.  Porthcawl FC were happy for them to stay, but now they have been forced out of the county.

Council don't give a damn about them, same with us.
ron jeremie

Thats why we have to make sure it don't happen to us.
We dont want to end up playing from Maesteg or Aberavon if we lose the Brewery Field.
Apart from the Police ground is there another one in Bridgend that has the facility needed by the WRU to play in the Premier Division
The only reason i come to Bridgend is for the rugby.
blaze.s8n

The Bridgend blue bulls play in porthcawl, don't they? And the Football team play outside of the town. crazy. last season watching Bridgend was very depressing, at home and even worse away (especially at aberavon, where we took a lot of stick on the field and on the terrace)! And for many reasons. I think our rugby will be better this season (I think I said the same last year mind) and we should at least be more entertaining or competitive, which is what is needed to bring more people in. I brought a mate to a game last season, and it was dire. He didn't come again. Sometimes I wonder why I bother too. I don't come to every game, but I try to come to as many as I can, because I still get a buzz on the morning of a neath game or a cardiff game or whoever it may be, at the thought of possibly beating them (which doesn't last long once the game starts...).
